Art Club at Mount Shasta Library
Children come aboard the The Siskiyou Arts Bus at the Mount Shasta Library after school to enjoy art instruction in a fun youth-orientated art studio space.
The Art Club strives to cultivate talent, boost self-confidence, and improve social skills while offering exposure to many art mediums throughout the month.
Movement and Music
Movement and Music classes are for young children and their parent/guardian. In this parent-participation class, infants, toddlers and young children ages 1 to 3+ years experience the power of music, the magic of movement, and the positive effects of child development while exploring rhythm, movement, percussion and singing.
The Movement and Music program is offered in a series of six weekly classes.
Art From Within Program for At-risk Youth
The Art From Within (AFW) program uses the powerful medium of movement & theater to offer Dunsmuir, CA youth an opportunity to learn to dialogue effectively, and to develop positive solutions to their personal challenges. The program is geared towards middle and high school youth who have little or no access to the arts, and for those kids “at risk” and who possibly have unsettled family lives. We welcome young adults to participate!
The current focus is on movement, strengthening & conditioning, plus learning free-style break dance moves using “electrical funk” music! Teens meet once or twice weekly.
As participants progress, Theatre Arts will be introduced and used to create awareness and dialogue/solutions, creating solutions to decrease violence, substance abuse and suicide. The objective is to empower teens to write & perform stories & original scripts for the purpose of prevention, education & outreach to schools and community, and for the students’ own personal development.
Juvenile Justice Art Program
The Juvenile Justice Art Program is sponsored through the Siskiyou Art Council Arts Bus Program. It brings youth who are incarcerated visual, literary, and performing arts, at J. Everett Barr Court School in Yreka. The school is operated by the Siskiyou County Office of Education and serves youth incarcerated at the Charlie Byrd Youth Corrections Center. The arts program has been operating since 2006; through a partnership of the Siskiyou County Office of Education and Siskiyou Arts Council, students are exposed to a wider range of art instructors and artistic mediums to explore.

Your recurring financial donations help our youth programs flourish; they also sustain us. Donations of art supplies are also appreciated and allow children to express themselves in positive ways.
